It's not a matter of getting "full", it's a matter of picking something that doesn't exceed my calorie count for the day too much...
[However, he does glance at Leona's meat that is brought to the table, and then at the menu again that's been left behind on the table still. Remembers again that today is his birthday, so he could convince himself to not care so much about such things today... but for now, he stubbornly stabs his fork into the salad to eat. He already ordered it, it would be shameful to let too much of it go to waste.
That said, it's likely going to become increasingly apparent that Azul isn't really eating his salad in a way that makes it seem like he's actually enjoying it, given how slow he's probably eating here in comparison to Leona and his own meat that was ordered.]
Sure, but are you really satisfied with just that?
[But you know what, to each their own. Leona is definitely going to enjoy his meat, looking very pleased by it even if the seasoning isn't quite to his taste.
After a moment, though, he does notice Azul not enjoying his salad. He's eating slow. So, it has Leona grunting a bit, waving a server over to order another dish. He didn't miss the way Azul glanced at the menu earlier or the way he looked at his own dish.]
[Azul doesn't say anything to that. In fact, he doesn't really talk at all for a while as they eat, or even look up from his salad that he's taking such slow bites of, at least not until Leona waves a server over and thus Azul finally looks up here, raising an eyebrow.]
Just for that, I should make whatever you're about to get next the last thing you're allowed to order here... at least, as far as anything that I'm willing to pay for.
[He can't actually stop Leona from ordering but he can tell the waiter to put them on separate checks if Leona keeps testing his limits here.]
Excuse me? Is that any way to speak to someone who--
[But then the server has returned before Azul can finish what he's saying, and Leona is suddenly pushing the dish toward Azul rather than pulling it toward himself, causing Azul to falter.]
[Leona nudges the dish more towards Azul and then pulls away that sad bowl of salad.]
Enjoy eating more, octo-punk. Seeing you looking sad while eating just makes a rather unenjoyable sight. If you're going to invite me to eat with you, at least eat something you like.
[Azul blinks in surprise, clearly not having expected this gesture before he looks away, a little awkward and embarrassed now as he huffs.]
I was not looking sad. You're just saying that because you can't stand the sight of vegetables in general.
[And yet, he notably doesn't attempt to retrieve and pull that salad back over to his side of the table. Instead, Azul's looking at the dish that's in front of him now with a rather unreadable expression, until after a rather long beat for someone to be staring at their food, he finally picks up his silverware as he sighs.]
... Regardless, I suppose I can't let this go to waste now that it's already been brought to the table.
[So he takes a bite, and despite the fact that all he's doing is eating, there is in fact a noticeable difference immediately. Whether that be via actually catching the way his eyes light up a little more, or that his next bite after is much quicker than the halting, reluctant speed he was eating at before, it's still pretty obvious that Azul is in fact enjoying the taste of this more than he had that salad.]
Emerald eyes watches Azul eat for a moment and he's rather satisfied with the results. He doesn't really understand this whole 'calorie count' thing the octopus has going on, but even he knows what Azul is doing isn't healthy. Leona's no poster child when it comes to healthy eating habits, but he doesn't actively starve himself either like what Azul seems to be doing.
The fact the octopus seems more delighted eating the meat dish speaks volumes, too. Good.]
[Azul gives him a frustrated look at that remark, but otherwise does not continue the argument for the time being, on account of the fact that this meat is actually good.
It's not the best thing he's ever eaten in his life, of course, but he can understand immediately why this restaurant has had modest success with it upon tasting this particular dish. There's a good flavor to it thanks to the way the meat was cooked and the seasonings that were chosen by the chefs to accompany it. Normally he might have even started talking about it out loud if Floyd and Jade had been here to listen so that they could offer their own opinions on whether it's something worth replicating for the Lounge. But since they're not here and he's in the company of Leona instead, he doesn't, staying quietly focused on his meal instead.
Not that the salad didn't have any flavor either, exactly, but given that he eats so many other foods that are supposed to be "healthy" calorie-conscious meals so frequently, he has to quietly concede at least to himself that he does get sick of the taste after a while. The truth of the matter is that Azul, despite his needling at Leona for it a second ago, has always enjoyed meat more than vegetables himself. Probably not to the exact same degree Leona does but put a plate of fried chicken in front of him and there's a good chance that Azul would have it polished off within seconds.
Suddenly his fork hits nothing, and Azul abruptly realizes that he's already finished what he had on his plate here despite the fact that it was not fried chicken by comparison, blinking at it not unlike how a cat might upon seeing that their bowl is already empty again. Damn, maybe it has been a while since he last ate something with a good flavor to it, if he finished the meat so quickly that he may as well have inhaled it by comparison to that salad that's still abandoned off to the side.]
Fortunately, Leona doesn't talk much while he waits. He's rather much focused on getting something in his stomach than to waste his time on small talk. Or rather, it could be that he and Azul really don't have much to talk about. Still, it's something for him to see how Azul practically devoured that meat dish without stopping once.
He holds back a snort.]
Seems like you've really enjoyed that dish, octo-punk.
[Seriously. Just eat what you want. Leona really doesn't get it.]
[Azul has reasons for why his eating habits are the way they are these days, but it's not something he is going to openly share so easily. Besides, Leona probably wouldn't get it still even if Azul did try to explain himself, he thinks...
Instead, Azul busies himself with taking a drink before he speaks, attempting to regain some semblance of cool in his tone.]
It had a good flavor. I can understand now why you had chosen it, as well as acknowledge that this restaurant should feel confident in their skills when preparing this particular meat.
[There's a chance that it could kill him to be honest depending on what exactly Azul chooses to be honest about, but in this case...]
Huh? Is that not basically what I was saying?
[no its not, azul]
But fine, to put it simply, yes. I did enjoy it.
[It would be kind of silly to try to lie about it otherwise, given not only how quickly he ate it, but that he actually finished it right than leaving it half-eaten like that salad.]
Of course not. That would have been a waste of money otherwise to buy food and then not eat it.
[And yet, that sad salad just sits there, even as he realizes vaguely that this makes him immediately sound like a hypocrite. And so, he rather quickly says--]
Since I ended up eating a little more than I thought I would be here, I'll have to take this back to my place as leftovers for later.
[So see, it's fine! He isn't being wasteful at all! He will finish his sad salad when he has to eat again later!]
[A low hum. One that tells Azul exactly that he doesn't quite believe him. This poor salad was chosen first and then discarded. How could you do such a thing to it?]
Why not order something else with it to go in that case?
[Azul bristles at that, now offended as he glares.]
Excuse me? I'm not a freak for being on a diet. In fact, it's often necessary for many people, not just myself, to keep track of calories and the like in order to maintain one's health and weight in a reasonable manner.
For health, sure. But the way I see it, it does more harm than good.
[He shrugs.]
Exercising is good for ya. Eat what ya want in moderation and work out in the meantime. But you gotta enjoy the food you eat and not make yourself depressed eating it.
[Leona quirks a brow and nods to the lonely salad.]

[Carnivore thoughts. Can't relate. Leona is looking at it like it's personally offended him.]

I could, but as tempting as that may be, I need to be mindful to not exceed my calorie count for the day...
[And there it is, finally saying something about that diet of his that he's on.]
no subject
[He stares at that.]
...Don't tell me you're one of those diet freaks.

Why do you even care about this anyway? I don't see how it matters to you what I eat or don't eat here.
no subject
[Even so…]
Just don’t need ya starvin’ yourself when you don’t need to in this place. Ain’t like it’s back home, after all.
cw that probably should have gone up sooner but now being more direct about azul's eating disorder
