[ Many, many mistakes have been made. By other people, not necessarily by Khalid. First mistake? Leona should never have brought Khalid to his little cottage. Now Claude knows where the man lives and can show up at random. Like he is today, because he's resting right out in front of Leona's house. Back up against a wall that's providing shade, arms behind his head in a napping stance.
Second and third mistakes had been done by both Leona and the Azul guy. Leona for not safeguarding all of that work on his desk and Azul for just spilling so much information that he had no idea would be of relevance. Of course, Khalid had no idea that Azul would practically gift wrap pertinent information like that. He thought he would have to ask a few more questions under the guise of being overly interested ( though he's always good with learning new things ) before he would get anything that he could use.
But it does give him a better idea of what all of those documents are for. It also means that there is the potential for Leona to strain himself from overuse of magic ( not that Khalid knows what it would do ). So maybe he has questions about Leona's project. Moreover, maybe he just wants to check and see if the man is overexerting himself at all.
